Day 1 by Zoe

After pulling out of the YMCA parking lot in Bath, we continued by bus down the coast to New York City. As soon as we got to the last rest stop before the ‘Big Apple’, the view was the normal highway-bordering trees and overgrowing grass. We had gotten used that sight and had become accustomed to it.  As soon as the traffic slowed I started to look out the window of the bus.
I noticed the dramatic change in the scenery and the buildings lining the busy, congested streets. They were more angular and towering in comparison to the undersized buildings in Brunswick. There was graffiti on almost every bare surface visible. There was trash blowing in the wind in the middle of the streets. As we drove further into the city, I noticed there were so many people. There were tons of people crowding the streets and entering buildings. There was such a diverse population and they were going about their daily business.  It was not so much the people themselves that caught my attention but it was the number of people.
As we continued on our journey through NYC the sun dipped below the horizon and the city started to darken. No sooner as the brightness lowered, the lights of the buildings ignited in a burst of light and energy. The view was a intense and massive sea of lights and glittering spots in the darkness.
New York City is a whole other world in itself. Everything about it was mesmerizing and interesting. Brunswick is very far from New York and the difference is clear. The people who live in these to separate environments are the same.
